Dr Dickinson is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.  She received her medical degree from Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Penn.  She completed her residency training and surgical pathology fellowship at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California (LAC-USC).  Dr Dickinson sits on the board for the California Society of Pathologists and is an active member of the College of American Pathology.

Ronald W. Thomason, MD • Medical Director - Brentwood, TN

Dr Thomason is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology.  He received a medical degree with highest honors from the University School of Medicina in Memphis, Tenn.  Dr Thomason completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at WilfordHallMedicalCenter at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and participated in a hematopathology fellowship directed by Dr Peter Banks at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.US LABS Medical and Scientific Staff

Galina I. Bannykh, MD • Surgical Pathology – Irvine, CA

Dr Bannykh is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. She received her medical degree from the Ivanovo State Medical School in Ivanovo, Russia. She completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at University of California, San Diego (UCSD).  Dr Bannykh was chief resident in anatomic and clinical pathology while at UCSD.  After a 1-year surgical pathology fellowship under Dr Noel Weidner at UCSD, Dr Bannykh completed a fellowship in oncologic pathology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

George S. Csathy, MD • Surgical Pathology - Irvine, CA

Dr Csathy is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. He received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota and completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he also served as chief resident. Prior to joining US LABS in 2005, Dr Csathy was a staff pathologist at the West Los Angeles Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare Center, where he also served as an assistant clinical professor at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine.  He was also a member of the Department of Veterans Affairs National Surgical Pathology Education Committee while at the West Los AngelesVA.  Dr Csathy’s duties at US LABS include general surgical pathology and cytopathology with an emphasis on genitourinary pathology.  He is a member of the College of American Pathologists, the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the Los Angeles Society of Pathologists.

Wayne W. Chen, MD, PhD • Hematopathology - Irvine, CA

Dr Chen is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology. He received his medical degree from Nanjing Medical University, his master's degree from Peking University Health Science Center, and his PhD from the National Institute of Virology in China. He was a postdoctoral fellow at The Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, Calif. He completed his residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at University of Arizona, Tucson.  Dr Chen completed a two-year fellowship in hematopathology with a subspecialty in lymphoma and lymph node pathology under Dr Elaine S. Jaffe at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD.

Helen L. Drwinga, PhD • Associate Cytogenetics Director –                Winter Park, FL

Dr Drwinga is board-certified in clinical cytogenetics.  She received her PhD from the University of Texas at M.D.AndersonHospital in Houston.  She was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Pathology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia.  Dr Drwinga is a founding fellow of the AmericanCollege of Genetics and a member of the American Society of Human Genetics.

Froilan P. Espinoza, MD • Hematopathology - Irvine, CA

Dr Espinoza is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and immunopathology. He is a graduate of California State University, San Bernardino, and University of California Irvine-California College of Medicine. He served as a resident in pathology at the University of California Irvine Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and Long Beach and Memorial Medical Center through a combined program, serving as chief resident his final year. He completed a fellowship in surgical pathology at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. Since 1990, Dr Espinoza has held the position of assistant clinical professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of California Irvine- California College of Medicine. He joined US LABS after serving as the medical director of hematology-oncology at Quest Diagnostics' Nichols Institute, and he is a member of the College of American Pathologists.

Shi-Ping Jiang, MD, PhD • Hematopathology - Irvine, CA

Dr Jiang is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology. She received her medical degree from Tongji Medical University, China, where she also received her master's degree in clinical research. She received a PhD in pathology from Essen University in Germany.  Dr Jiang completed residency programs at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center and George Washington University Medical Center. She also completed a fellowship in hematopathology at Scripps Clinic, San Diego, Calif, with Dr Sharpe and Dr Bethel. Other training in hematopathology includes completion of special programs under the tutelage of Dr John Chan, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Hong Kong, and Dr Elaine Jaffe, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD.  Prior to initiating her pathology career, Dr Jiang gained some clinical experience as a hematologist-oncologist and engaged in years of research in the field of immunology.

Jerome L. McCombs, PhD • Director of Cytogenetics - Austin, TX

Dr McCombs is board-certified in clinical cytogenetics. He received his PhD in physiology and genetics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Ala. David T. Miller, MD, PhD • Surgical Pathology - Brentwood, TN

Dr Miller is board-certified in clinical pathology. He received his PhD from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from the University of Nebraska. He has more than 20 years of experience in the development and implementation of diagnostic applications for clinical pathology, with more than 10 years focused in flow cytometry. Dr Miller is a member of the International Society for Analytical Cytology and the American Association of Blood Banks.

Takako Mitsuhashi, MD, PhD • Surgical Pathology - Irvine, CA

Dr Mitsuhashi is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and dermatopathology. She received her medical degree from Tokyo Women's Medical School and completed her PhD at the Gunma University School of Medicine in Japan. Dr Mitsuhashi was a postdoctoral fellow at Cancer Research Center at the University of California, San Francisco.  She completed her dermatopathology training under Dr Ronald J Barr at the University of California, Irvine. After a 1-year fellowship, she also served as a clinical instructor in general surgical pathology and dermatopathology at the University of California, Irvine.

Christian Morosan, MD • Hematopathology - Brentwood, TN

Dr Morosan received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davalia” Bucharest, Romania.  He received post-medical school training in family medicine at County Hospital Suceava, Romania, and residency training in neurology at Trinity Clinic Neurosurgery Hospital, Iasi, Romania.  He completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, Mass, and a hematopathology fellowship at Shands Medical Center, University of Florida, Gainesville.  Dr Morosan is a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the International Academy of Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Debra M. Mitchell Nelson, MD • Hematopathology - Brentwood, TN

Dr Nelson is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and in hematopathology.  She is a graduate of the University of the West Indies Faculty of Medicine, and she completed residency training in pathology and fellowship training in hematopathology at the University of Florida.  Dr Nelson is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.

Krishna Oza, MD • Hematopathology - Brentwood, TN

Dr Oza is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, in hematopathology, and in blood banking and transfusion medicine.  He earned his medical degree at Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya/M.G.M. Medical College, Indore (M.P.), India, where he also completed residency training in obstetrics and gynecology and in anatomic and clinical pathology.  He was a hematology resident at Service Central d’ Hématologie-Immunologie, Hôpital Henri Mondor, Créteil, France.  He completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology and was chief resident in surgical pathology at Beth Israel Medical Center.  He completed his fellowship training in hematopathology and blood banking and transfusion medicine at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY.  Before joining US LABS, Dr Oza was director of blood bank and transfusion medicine at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.  He is a fellow of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the College of American Pathologists and a member of the Canadian and American Academy of Pathology, the American Association of Blood Bankers, and the American Society of Hematology.

Joseph S. Papiez, MD • Hematopathology - Brentwood, TN

Dr Papiez is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and in hematopathology.  He earned his medical degree at Indiana University School of Medicine.  He subsequently completed residency training in pathology and a fellowship in hematopathology at the University of Florida under Raul Braylan.  He was a faculty member at the University of Florida before joining US LABS.  Dr Papiez is a member of the College of American Pathologists and the Clinical Cytometry Society.

Radha Satyadev, MD, FCAP • Associate Medical Director of Molecular Diagnostics –  Irvine, CA

Dr Satyadev is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, hematopathology, and molecular genetic pathology.  She received her medical degree with honors from Osmania University, Hyderabad, India.  Dr Satyadev completed a rotatory internship at the University of Massachusetts and residency training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark, and Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ.  While in residency, she was elected by the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology to do a rotation in pulmonary and diagnostic radiology pathology with Dr William Travis.  She did a year of surgical pathology fellowship at Saint Barnabas Medical Center with Dr Robert V.P. Hutter and Dr Robert Rickert, followed by hematopathology fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, Calif.  Dr Satyadev is a member of the College of American Pathology and the Association for Molecular Pathology.

Robert Stroup, MD • Surgical Pathology - Irvine, CA

Dr Stroup is board-certified in anatomic pathology. He received his medical degree from the University of Washington Medical School. He completed residency training in surgical pathology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He completed a fellowship in hematopathology at City of Hope National Medical Center under the direction of the late Dr Henry Rappaport. After completing his fellowship training, Dr Stroup was on the medical staff of City of Hope Medical Center. More recently, he served as medical director for US LABS from 2000 through 2003. He has published numerous papers and abstracts during his extensive career and is an expert in the advanced testing methodologies utilized at US LABS.

Wlodek Szczarkowski, MD • Hematopathology - Brentwood, TN

Dr Szczarkowski received his medical degree from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. He completed his residency in clinical pathology at Berkshire Medical Center in Massachusetts and completed fellowships in hematopathology at Harvard University and William Beaumont Hospital. Additionally, Dr Szczarkowski completed a molecular pathology fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr Szczarkowski is one of the nation's leading experts in flow cytometry, with more than 100,000 reviewed cases, and is responsible for developing and implementing flow cytometry testing and maintaining US LABS' high standards in data interpretations and quality assurance.

Patricia Uherova, MD • Hematopathology - Brentwood, Tenn

Dr Uherova is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and hematopathology. She earned her medical degree at the Charles University School of Medicine in Prague, Czechoslovakia. She completed her residency training in pathology at the University of Michigan and completed hematopathology fellowships at the University of Michigan and Vanderbilt University. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists.

Horacio G. Vall, PhD • Associate Vice President of Science and Technology - Irvine, CA

Dr Vall received his doctorate at the National University of Rosario, Argentina.  Prior to joining US LABS he served for 3 years as Vice President of Laboratory Services at Clarient, Inc., where he was responsible for developing and implementing specific tests on flow cytometry, molecular oncology, and FISH using conventional and new ways to improve laboratory’s efficiencies and work flow. Prior to that, Dr Vall worked for Genzyme (formally Impath) for 8 years, where, as the Corporate Technical Director High Complexity Testing, he was responsible for new technologies involving flow cytometry, image analysis and complex molecular based testing. He was also responsible for the overall management of all clinical laboratory testing, operations, and test development for the division, and led the QA & QC team in assessment and development of the product pipeline and technology utilization. During the early1990’s he worked on leukemia-lymphoma flow cytometry analysis and helper/suppressor studies in transplant patient for drug monitoring, conducted studies on immunodeficiency patients using flow cytometry, and performed stem cell studies for autologous bone marrow transplants at both LomaLindaUniversityMedicalCenter and City of Hope National Medical Director. 

Changjun Yue, MD, PhD • Hematopathology - Irvine, CA

Dr Yue is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology, hematopathology, and molecular genetic pathology.  He received his PhD in molecular pharmacology and toxicology from the University of Southern California.  He completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology, including 8 months of hematopathology training, at Harbor-UCLAMedicalCenter.  He completed a hematopathology fellowship at UCLA and a lymphoma fellowship with Dr Elaine Jaffe at the National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, Md.  In addition to his responsibilities at US LABS, Dr Yue is also a consulting physician for the Harbor-UCLA Department of Pathology.

Xiao-Xiang Zhang, MD, PhD • Director of Cytogenetics -         Brentwood, TN

Dr Zhang is board certified in clinical cytogenetics. She received her medical degree from HunanMedicalUniversity, Changsha, China, and her PhD in pathology/cytogenetics from McGillUniversity in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She completed fellowship training in clinical molecular genetics at DukeUniversityMedicalCenter under Dr Y.T.Chen and in clinical cytogenetics at that same institution under Dr M.B.Qumsiyeh.Dr Zhang has authored numerous articles on topics in her fields of expertise.
 

US LABS Consulting Pathologists

David J. Dabbs, MD • Chief Diagnostic Consultant

Dr Dabbs is a graduate of the Medical College of Ohio.  He held the position of chief resident at the University of Washington, and he has devoted his work to diagnostic surgical pathology.  Dr Dabbs has extensive experience in immunohistochemistry and is the author and editor of the textbook Diagnostic Immunohistochemistry.  He is the chief of pathology at the Magee-Women’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, and a professor of pathology at the University of Pittsburgh.  Dr Dabbs has more than 20 years of experience in the surgical pathology of solid tumors with additional subspecialty-focused interest in the study of tumors of unknown origin, breast and gynecologic pathology, and tumor cytopathology.  He offers national workshops in breast pathology and immunohistochemistry and has published and presented more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals and at national meetings.  He sits on multiple editorial, educational, and scientific advisory boards and is a member of the College of American Pathologists.

Celia Dawn Delozier, PhD • Cytogenetics Consultant

Dr Delozier is board-certified in clinical cytogenetics, medical genetics, and genetic counseling.  She was first trained as a genetic counselor and went on to earn a PhD in medical genetics at the Indiana University School of Medicine.  Much of her postgraduate career was spent in the Department of Medical Genetics of the GenevaUniversityMedicalSchool in Switzerland.  She returned to the United States in 2002 and now divides her time between her clinical practice at Genetic Medicine Central California and her consulting work for US LABS.  She has a faculty appointment at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Education Program and is an active member of the American and European Societies of Human Genetics.

Paul Kirshman, MD • Consultant

Dr Kirshman is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology.  He received his medical degree from University of Montpellier, France.  He completed residency training at WestchesterCountyMedicalCenter, Valhalla, NY, and fellowship training in molecular pathology at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md.  Dr Kirshman’s subspecialty is uropathology.  He worked at UroCor in Oklahoma City, Okla, from 1997 to 2001 and then joined US LABS in 2001 to develop its expertise in uropathology.

Susan M. Zneimer, PhD • Cytogenetics Consultant

Dr Zneimer is board-certified in cytogenetics.  She received her PhD in genetics from TexasA&MUniversity in College Station, and she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in cytogenetics at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.  She has been a director of clinical genetic laboratories for more than 15 years and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, an instructor at MoorparkCollege, and a clinical associate at University of California, San Francisco.  Dr Zneimer is also the chief executive officer of MOSYS Consulting, providing consulting services for US LABS and other genetics laboratories.  She has been an invited lecturer throughout the United States in the field of genetics, most prominently speaking about the human genome and cancer genome projects, prenatal and cancer genetics, ethics in genetics, and the genetics of the Jewish people.
